I was born and raised in Cape Town and was privileged to a very good education even by apartheid standards! I did ballet for 10 years and modern jazz for 6 years as well as matriculating with Speech & Drama and Mathematics. I had traveled overseas to England and France before I matriculated and it opened up a world of possibilities beyond what bursaries and society norms dictated.
Being a trained dancer and skilled performer proved to be my most valuable assets when time came(18) to earn a living. It helped me to travel all over Sub Saharan Africa, Europe and even as far as New Zealand loving what I did and living life on my own terms. Naturally, my mother was never comfortable with my career choice and always insisted that I study something, so I would have a Plan B should the need arise. My tertiary studies included a Secretarial course, Front of House Hotel Management, Computer programming (visual basic 6 & SQL Databases), BComm Marketing & Business Management and a couple of First Aid Courses.
I paid for all my tertiary education myself but went straight back to dancing every time since it was my cash cow and did not require a curriculum vitae explaining what I had done with the rest of my time . Before I knew it, 20years in the industry had passed along with it, all my mother's hopes that I would grow out of it and become something she could honestly brag about in church!
I am the sum total of all my experience and outcomes based learning. It is that which i would like to share with the world and attempt to grow outside of the box past practice has put me in, while trying to help others like me and informing the rest of you about the life of an Exotic Dancer.
